Obituary

Charles Parsons

May 13, 1933 – May 17, 2022

Charles Frederick Parsons, age 89, of Tucson, Arizona, (formerly of Smithtown, New York), passed away at his home on Tuesday May 17, 2022, surrounded by his three loving daughters.

Charles was born on May 13, 1933, in New York, NY  to the late Frederick Spencer Parsons and Mary Catherine Gray, MD. He grew up in Malverne, NY, where he participated in sports and outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, camping and kayaking.

Charles attended Farmingdale College where he met his wife, Suzanne, and graduated from the Engineering program in 1956. Charles married Suzanne Sicard on November 24th, 1956 and celebrated over 65 years of marriage.

He served in the United States Navy, where he was initially in the Navy reserves while attending college. He was later stationed at the Argentia, Newfoundland Naval Base, as an officer in the Construction Battalion. He was honorably discharged in 1961. Charles was proud of and fondly recalled his time of service.

Charles was employed as an Architect and Engineer in multiple positions on Long Island, New York throughout his career before retiring and relocating to Tucson Arizona in 1995. Places of interest included Grumman Aircraft and Engineering Corporation, Russel’s Plastics, The NY Telephone Company and Stony Brook University Hospital.

Charles was a devoted, loving and supportive family man and was actively involved with his daughters, son in law and eight grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with his three great-grandchildren. He will forever be remembered for his ease of laughter, sense of humor, storytelling, and ability to engage in conversation with anyone, anywhere, at any time. Charles enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. He was kindhearted, caring and loved animals. At family gatherings, he was frequently surrounded by pets and was often scolded for feeding them from his plate.

Charles, “Chuck,” has left handprints on the hearts of those he cared for and his humor, zest for life and joyful presence will live on in his loved ones.

Charles is survived by his wife, Suzanne, daughters, Lynne Parsons, Denise Parsons, and Michelle Merbeth, son-in-law, Todd, grandchildren Daniel Wilhelmsen, Jonathan Wilhelmsen (Cheryl), Chris Wilhelmsen, Michael Wilhelmsen, Robert Wilhelmsen, Kristyn Merbeth, Todd Merbeth and Lucas Merbeth, and great-grandchildren, Sophia, Ulrich, and Camilla; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James (Barbara). Charles also leaves behind one of his favorite companions, his dog, Buster.

A funeral service will be held at Marana Mortuary on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 6:00 pm.  Friends may visit from 4:00 pm until service time.  Charles will be laid to rest at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Marana on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 11:00 am.
