Obituary

January 23, 1925 – October 11, 2017

Diane Carbulon Poulos, 92, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2017 with family at her bedside. She is together again with her beloved husband, Panos.

Born in New York City, Diane was the daughter of John and Panagiota Carbulon and sister of Peter John Carbulon (deceased). Diane spent her early years in Cortland, New York where her father owned a hotel. In 1944, she received an Associate in Science degree from Lasell Junior College, Auburndale, Massachusetts. Diane would often visit her cousin and close friend, Nina, and other family members in Newport, Rhode Island. During one of her visits to Newport at the age of 9, she met Panos! She reconnected with him following her permanent move to Newport when she was 20. He asked her to marry him on their first date, but being the lady she was, he had to wait for her “yes”. They were eventually married on June 6, 1948 in Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church and honeymooned in Bermuda.

Diane spent her married years as a happy, loving wife and mother to her daughters, Patti and Alicia. She was very active with her family while living in Washington State enjoying boating in Puget Sound, hiking in the mountains and camping.

Diane was married to her late husband, Panos, for 67 years. She lived in many states across the country during her lifetime moving from New York to Rhode Island, Delaware, Washington, California, Illinois and Arizona. She lived in Illinois for 39 years in the cities of Winnetka, Crystal Lake and Huntley. During her time in Illinois, she and Panos saw both daughters married and all four grandchildren born. She loved and was very proud of her grandchildren. Shortly before Diane’s passing, her first great-grandchild, Jacob Panos, was born.

Diane is survived by her daughters, Patrice Bayers (Michael) and Alicia Engledow, and grandchildren Aimee Simpson (Philip), Jonathan Bayers (Ania), Scott and Kevin Engledow, and great-grandson, Jacob Panos Bayers.

The funeral visitation will begin at 10:30am on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Marana Mortuary followed by a 12:00pm service at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Marana, Arizona.
