Obituary

Mary Jane Romero was the oldest child born to Carmen and Robert Johnston on February 6, 1947.  As a teen, Mary Jane was introduced to Jonathan Romero by her cousin Thurman Brooks.  After that first date with Jon, Mary Jane came home and knew she had met “the one”.  They dated, married and were inseparable until March 2, 2023 when Mary Jane went to take her place in heaven.

Mary Jane and Jon had 4 children of their own.  Anna (Michael) Griffith, predeceased by Pauline (Brad Sr.) Blankenship, Jonathan Romero (Terri Berger) and Christine (Rodney) Fitzsimmons.  Mary Jane and Jon moved to Marana in the late 70’s where they built their home and raised their children.  She took much joy in watching her children grow up.  Whether it was spending days at the Pima County Fair watching her kids show their FFA animals or actually getting on a “tiny” plane with friends to go watch her youngest play basketball in New Mexico.  She took great pride in their accomplishments.

Mary Jane has 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.  She kept count how many of each she had, would brag about all of them and never missed a birthday.  Each one held a special place in her heart.

Mary Jane was an avid University of Arizona fan.  She could tell you where every basketball player was currently playing once they left the U of A.  She went to football games and even a base ball game or two.  After retiring, Mary Jane and Jon made numerous trips to Laughlin.  Mary Jane and Jon loved each other and loved doing EVERYTHING together.

Mary Jane worked for Saccani’s, Evergreen, Bombardiar and retired from Raytheon.  She would tell us she could not disclose what she did at Raytheon and if she did, she’d have to kill us. We are confident that she continues to make her friends and family laugh in heaven.
