Obituary

Robert Leo Maxey, 81, of Marana, AZ, went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 14, 2020, following a decade-long battle with cancer. Bob was born to Eugene and Gladys Maxey on the family dairy in Harrah, OK, on December 22, 1938.
He graduated in 1956 from Harrah High School where he played football, basketball and baseball and participated in Future Farmers of America. He married his high school sweetheart Juanita Weller on June 6, 1958. Bob and Nita made their home in Harrah where they raised three sons.
Bob served his country as a member of both the U.S. Army Reserves and the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He served his state as a sergeant of arms for the Oklahoma State Senate. Bob served his community as a member of the Harrah Board of Trustees and as mayor from September 11, 1980, to May 26, 1983. He served God as a deacon and teacher at First Baptist Church of Harrah.
Bob and Nita moved to Marana, AZ, in 2014 to be near their son Russell and his family and to seek treatment at the University of Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson. Since 2015 he has been a member of Mt. View Baptist Church, Tucson.
He was a dock worker, pick-up and delivery driver and salesman for Graves Truck Lines in Oklahoma City before operating his own business, Maxey Hot Shot, in the oil fields of Oklahoma in the early 1980s. He retired as a salesman for Lubrications Services Inc. in 2004.
In his life Bob was an avid golfer and OU Sooner fan. After retirement he realized a long-time dream by building his own 1923 Ford T-Bucket hot rod. He was a member of Christian Rods and Customs and he and his bucket were featured on the cover of the National T-Bucket Alliance magazine. Before moving to Arizona, Bob, Nita and their bucket, Oh-U-‘T’, were regulars at local car shows and the Harrah Day Parade.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Juanita, of the home; one sister, Eugenia Wiegert of Harrah; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robin Maxey and Keely West of Salem, OR, Russell and Robin Lynn Maxey of Marana, and Randy and Lisa Maxey of Broomfield, CO; nine grandchildren, Bobbie Ice (and Geoff) of Blanchard, OK, Alyssa Ballou (and Keith) of Flagstaff, Adam Maxey (and Bailey) of Yukon, Clayton Maxey (and Brittany Trojanowski) of Tucson, Austin Maxey of Edmond, Ryan Maxey of Phoenix, Bryanna West (and Zack Lopez) of Birmingham, UK, Zackery Wagner of Broomfield, CO, and Carsen Wagner of Broomfield, CO; one great-grandchild, Duncan Ballou of Flagstaff; and a host of others by blood, love and marriage.
