Donald Edward Carbiener

Donald E. Carbiener, 79, died unexpectedly March 1, 2022 at his home in Tucson, AZ. He was born February 3, 1943 in South Bend, IN, the son of Eldon E. Carbiener.and Martha Jane (Hively). Don was the first born grandson of both the Carbiener and Hively families.

Don graduated from Catalina High School in 1961. He briefly attended Eastern Arizona College before joining the United States Navy where he served during the Vietnam War. After his time in the Navy, Don did many things. He raced flat track motorcycles professionally for Triumph, was a long haul trucker for RPS, and a construction superintendent for Doucette Homes to name a few. He also enjoyed bowling, volunteering in the community, coaching his daughter Jessica’s cheerleading teams; dirt modified racing with his son-in-law, Alex; watching televised sports including racing, U of A basketball, and Notre Dame football; and traveling, especially to Disneyland. His coaching career earned him two Hall of Fame induction honors with American Youth Football and Cheer as well as Tucson Youth Football and Spirit Federation. Don found the most pride in being “Squeaky’s” Papa.

Don was preceded in death by his first love, Barbara Ann Carbiener, his father Eldon, mother Martha Jane (Hively) Brooks as well as his many aunts and uncles. Surviving are his daughter, Jessica Dayle (Carbiener) Gonzalez and son-in-law, Alex; grandson, Brayden Elliot; ex wife, Cindy Carbiener; sister, Barbara Jane Carbiener;  niece, Cheri Lynn (Bauer) Aronstein (Eric); as well as many friends.

A celebration of life will be held for Don from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 27 at Crystal Event Center, 610 W. Prince Rd. Those who wish to remember Don in a special way may make gifts in his name to Tucson Youth Football and Spirit Federation.

Donald was a big part of my teenage years . We were 1st cousins and my being 13 years older, I was really his main baby sitter which I really have many great memories of him. R.I.P. love you

As the song says, "Thank you for being a friend!" We've been friends for nearly 30 years and I'm so glad you listened to me when I told you you shoulf support Jessica in cheerleading. Today I cheer and salute you my friend. My prayers are with Jessica, Alex, Brayden, Cindy and the rest of your family. You are gone but never forgotten my friend.
