Donald Lester Nevins, Jr., of Tucson, Arizona, passed away at Copper Canyon Alzheimer’s Special Care Center on March, 30, 2018. He was 79. Don was born on June 9th, 1938 in Corning, New York. He was the only devoted son to Bessie Ewart Nevins and Donald Lester Nevins, Sr.
Don earned a B.S.B.A in Accounting and Finance from University of Pittsburgh. He earned an M.B.A. from University of Buffalo while working full time as an accountant at the Carborundum Company and taking care of his family.
Don was a successful turn-around specialist; getting companies out of financial difficulties and back into profitability. Don’s work took him around the world from Brazil / Latin America to Europe to Australia. He helped such companies as Uniroyal, Northwest Industries, Employers Assurance, Combustion Engineering, Setal Installacaoes Industrias, and C&D Charter Power Systems. Don Nevins founded Microgenesis, a pharmaceutical company.
Don had passion for the Pennsylvania Rail Road, O gauge model trains, Tchaikovsky, Johnny Cash and leaving the world a better place. Don volunteered at the Tucson Public Schools teaching English as a second language. He continued his education by studying the indigenous cultures in the Sonoran desert and the Colorado plateau.
Don Nevins was a devout Christian all his life and was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Don Nevins is survived by his son, Donald Lester Nevins, III, his daughter, Alexandra Nevins Nordland, and two grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 8845 N. Silverbell Rd, Tucson, April 18 at 10:00 AM.
