Gerald Markowitz

May 2, 1938 – February 12, 2025

Gerald Markowitz, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, at his home in Marana, Arizona.  He was born on May 2, 1938 in New York City, the youngest of three sons of Harry Markowitz and Lottie (Siletsky) Markowitz.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers Robert Markowitz and Gene Martin.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Markowitz, son, Steven Markowitz (Patricia), stepson, David Ingalls, grandchildren, Andrew (Sara) Markowitz, Leah (Dustin) Ackley, and Evan Markowitz and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Markowitz, Lucas Markowitz, Clare Ackley and Camden Markowitz.

Jerry attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois in the late 1950’s and after finishing school, he moved to the Chicago area where he lived until retiring and moving to Arizona in 2009.

Jerry was a charismatic and entrepreneurial minded businessman who spent most of his career in the restaurant and meat packing industries. He owned and operated Jade East Restaurant in Valparaiso, Indiana in the 1970’s and several wholesale meat companies in the city of Chicago, both before and after his days as a restauranteur.

He enjoyed watching basketball and baseball, but most of all he loved his dogs.  His life long hobby was showing and breeding German Shepherd Dogs which he did for more than 35 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to one of two animal rescue organizations; The Asher House (theasherhouse.com) and Speranza (speranzarescue.org).
