Obituary

Greg was born in Chicago, Illinois to his loving parents Robert A. and Grace E. (Tink) Patchen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Mary Deirdre (Case) Patchen, and his two devoted German Shepherds, Rex and Thor.

He graduated from Northwestern University in 1969 where he studied engineering and was president of his fraternity, Delta Tau Delta.

Greg began his career in Washington DC where he served as Lieutenant in the US Coast Guard Reserve and subsequently Director of Facilities and Equipment for US Railway Association. He then moved to Philadelphia where he became Chief Engineer of Construction at Conrail. His career took him next to Salt Lake City as a director for Unysis, then to Schaumburg, IL as a VP of Manufacturing for Dytel Corporation. Ultimately he became owner, President & CEO of Eyring Corporation in Utah.

Greg was an avid reader of all genres. He traveled extensively around the world in both his professional and personal life, and took a particular interest in the history and culture of China and Japan. He was passionate about helping animals in need, and worked with animal rescue organizations. After retiring to Tucson, Greg loved working on the natural landscape, and over the years, turned his yard into a beautiful desert oasis.

Greg made a huge impression on me when I was 17 years old because he tried to convince me to join his fraternity. I did join, and never regretted it. We elected Greg to be our fraternity president because he was an excellent student and leader. He had the most alert, imaginative, and lively mind of us all.
