Obituary

James Michael Pirog

1953 – 2026

James Michael Pirog, 72, of Tucson, Arizona passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026 at the Villas on King Street in Tucson.

A cherished son, uncle, brother and friend, Jim’s warm presence and kind spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jim was born in Landstuhl, Germany to Helen and Anthony Pirog, as part of a military family.  He spent his early years in Tonawanda, New York and Morrisville, Pennsylvania before moving with his parents to Sierra Vista, Arizona. He graduated from Morrisville High School and later in years earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Arizona.

As an Army veteran Jim served his country proudly and honorably as a helicopter mechanic while stationed in Germany.

Jim had a passion for writing and exploring the vast deserts of Arizona, finding joy in the beauty of the landscape and the creativity of the written word.  He lived life on his terms.

He is survived by his older brothers, Tony and Steve Pirog; his niece, Tanya Amaris; and nephew, Fred Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Anthony Pirog; and his sister, Maryann Taylor.

Jim will be laid to rest with military honors in the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1300 S Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635 on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests reflecting on fond memories of Jim’s life and the quiet impact he had on those around him.
