Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jesus R. Martinez, a devoted husband, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great- great grandfather and devoted friend. He left us peacefully on February 13, 2025, at the age of 93, in the comfort of his home in Tucson, AZ. Jesus was born on December 26, 1931 in Hachita, New Mexico to Lucio and Aurora Martinez.

Jesus R. Martinez was a proud Army veteran, who served his country during The Korean War, from December 1948 to June 1951, working as a forward observer. He demonstrated unwavering courage and commitment to serving his country. His time in the military shaped his character and instilled in him values of duty, honor, and sacrifice, which he carried with him throughout his life.

After his service, Jesus returned to Douglas, AZ and married the love of his life Alicia Luna. They were married for an admirable 71 years. Together they had three sons, Eduardo, Arturo and Jess. Jesus worked for Phelps Dodge for 35 years, demonstrating a strong work ethic that provided for his family and set an inspiring example for those around him.

In his later years, Jesus enjoyed building model cars, making miniature furniture out of toothpicks and popsicle sticks for his granddaughters. He volunteered at the Food bank in Douglas, Az. He was a volunteer at Northwest Hospital, sung in the choir at church, he was a devoted Catholic and he loved spending time with his family.

Family was everything to Jesus. He is survived by his beloved wife Alicia Martinez, his 3 sons Eduardo (Marisela) Martinez, Arturo (Leticia) Martinez, Jess (Debbie) Martinez. 7 grandchildren, Eduardo Martinez, Leilani Martinez, Dominique Martinez, Arturo Martinez Jr., Erica Martinez Reyes, Michelle Martinez, and Jacob Martinez. 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Everyone will cherish the memories of his laughter, wisdom, and unwavering support. He is preceded in death by Lucio and Aurora Martinez, 1 brother and 8 sisters.

A rosary and Mass will be held on March 1, 2025 at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte, Tucson, Az 85704. Rosary will begin at 10:00 am and mass will follow at 10:30am. Jesus will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, service, and compassion will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
