Myra JoAn (Cook) Lowery was born on April 20, 1936 in Atlanta, Illinois, the youngest of 6 children. She married Virgil Lee Lowery on November 27, 1957 and they just celebrated 67 loving years together. JoAn passed from this life peacefully at home on December 1, 2024 in Tucson, AZ. She was 88.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Icem and Perlina Cook, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and grandson Erik Pyle.
There are not enough words to express what a wonderful person JoAn was. She was an amazing Wife, Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma and she loved her family unconditionally. She loved babysitting and spending time with her grandkids. She taught them how to play the organ, how to sew and crochet, and they sang together as they drove around town on their many adventures. She also enjoyed cooking with them and making them her famous “Grandma Potatoes”.
JoAn loved the Lord and was passionate about sharing that love with children. From teaching Sunday School, Children’s Church and Good News Club to driving teenagers to and from Youth Haven Ranch, it was an important part of her life to share Jesus with them.
JoAn was an Avon Lady for 40 years. She won many awards and enjoyed visiting with her customers and made many friends over the years.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Virgil, and children Anita (Fred) Pyle, Yvonna Jones, Stan Lowery, and Nancy (Greg) Spivey, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all who love her.
