MANUEL A. HINOJOSA
December 25, 1944 – July 12, 2024
Manuel Ayon Hinojosa, 79, passed away on July 12, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona. Manuel lived a full, rich and rewarding life. His motto was un día a la vez, one day at a time.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Brillhart Hinojosa; by his parents, Juan and Andrea Hinojosa; and by his brothers and sisters, Emilio Hinojosa, twins, Adam and Elias Hinojosa, George Hinojosa, Angelica Martinez, Arnulfo Hinojosa, and Estella Lukse.
Manuel was born December 25, 1944, in Taft, Texas, the eighth of nineteen children. He graduated from Taft High School in 1965 and moved to Michigan in 1966. At an Ecorse, MI 4th of July carnival in 1966, he met his future wife, Shirley Brillhart when she wanted someone to ride the roller coaster with. They married on April 14, 1967, and enjoyed 53 years together until her passing in 2020. They had one son, Matthew.
After serving for nearly twenty years as a Police Officer for the city of Ecorse, Michigan, he also worked as a Field Supervisor for Capital Metro in Austin, Texas, and as a Dispatcher for the Pima County Juvenile Court in Tucson, Arizona, until finally retiring in 2010. He enjoyed watching sports, woodworking, going to the casino, playing the lottery, listening to mariachi music, and scratching off lottery tickets.
Manuel is survived by his son Matthew Hinojosa; his siblings, Juan Hinojosa, Elena Martinez, Andrea (Margarito) Rodriguez, Alberto Hinojosa, Sister Lucia Hinojosa MDPVM, Rodolfo Hinojosa, Gracie (Raul) Sanchez, Kathy (Eddie) Moreno, Rose Mary (Frank) Fernandez, Mary Ann (John) Chavez, and Ramon (Janie) Hinojosa; by Sergio Salinas; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
It was Manuel’s wish to be cremated without services. A private interment will follow.

Manuel and I knew each other from our young years living in Taft, TX. Recently we discovered each other in Facebook. I will miss his conversations and feel really grateful to have rekindled so many memories with him. My deepest sympathy to his son, Matt and all of Manuel's family.
