Obituary

MARY ANN HARTL

Mary Anne Hartl (nee: Lemieux) of Tucson went home to God on November 9, 2024. Mary was
born June 26th, 1944 in Powers Lake, ND and lived in many towns across the United States
including Minnesota, California, and Illinois before settling in Racine, Wisconsin where she met
her husband, John Hartl. They were married in October 1976. In addition to John’s children,
Jenni Davis (Rick), Nick Hartl (Kate Bercaw), Amy Hart, and Emily Allen (Tony), Mary and John
have two daughters, Julianne Hartl and Cat Merrill (Claude). They also welcomed several
grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mary trained as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota and then proudly served
in the United States Army as a MASH nurse in Viet Nam. After completing her military service,
Mary earned her Bachlor degree from Marquette University and later recieved a Masters in
Adult Education from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She was dedicated to teaching
Surgical Technicians at Gateway Technical College (Kenosha, WI). Before her retirement, she
served as president of the Kenosha, WI chapter of the Association of Operating Room Nurses
(AORN), led the implementation of the Wisconsin Instruction Design System (WIDS) and was a
mentor to students in the Health Occupation Student Association (HOSA).

While in Racine, WI, Mary enjoyed singing with the Sacred Heart Parish choir, golfing with her
husband and cruising with her extended family. She also loved sewing customized clothing for
her daughters and reading mystery novels. Mary and John retired to Tucson in 2013. In her last
years, Mary was spiritually supported as a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Parish in
Oro Valley.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband John, and her parents, Robert and Evalyn
Lemieux. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandson, and her siblings,
Elizabeth Lemieux, Kay Heilgiest (James) and Robert Lemieux as well as their children and
grandchildren.

Mary will be waked at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Oro Valley on Tuesday
November 19th, 2024 at 10am. Mass of Christian Burial and interment at Holy Hope Cemetery
to follow immediately. Marana Mortuary is serving the family.
