Michael Miller, 44
Our beloved husband, father, brother, son and friend Michael Richmond Miller, 44, died unexpectedly on July 20, 2020 in Tucson, Arizona.
Michael was born on April 20, 1976, in Tucson, Arizona, to Robert and Danita Miller. As a middle child he was fiercely protective of his baby sister Kristine, and despite their childhood rivalry, admired his older brother John. His early days set the stage for what would be a life of action, athleticism and passion. Michael would fill his time by breakdancing, skateboarding, riding bikes, loving his animals, and playing any number of organized sports (swimteam, football, baseball, soccer). His passion and vigor amongst his various teammates led to numerous lifelong friendships.
Michael attended Hudlow Elementary, Fickett Junior High and Palo Verde High School. In 1997 Michael moved to Flagstaff and graduated from Northern Arizona University with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management (Despite being a lifelong and loyal University of Arizona Wildcats fan!). During this time he met his soulmate Alana, whom he married in 2002.
After settling back down together in Tucson, Michael and Alana became parents to daughters Alyssa (age 15) and Ava (age 13). Michael exuded even more passion for his family and girls, and was a proud father above all else. Teaching his girls how to snowboard on their yearly adventures kept him young at heart, and beating them all at Monopoly fed his competitiveness. He loved his wife and his daughters, and they loved their “Gee.”
Many of you know Michael’s professional life included working in and managing the family business, Party Carousel. However his career flourished in 2011 when he began working for QuikTrip, ultimately leading to Michael turning around one of the worst stores in the fleet to the top store in the world in 2019. QT awarded Michael and his crew with their “Best of the Best award,” just weeks ago, recognizing his store as #1 out of 853 stores world-wide.
Michael is survived by his wife Alana, daughters Alyssa and Ava, parents Bob and Danita, older brother John (Sharla), younger sister Kristine, nephews Nick and Zack, In-laws Ed and Linda Farr, brother in law Colin (Tami) and the QT staff he considered his second family.
Today and every day, we celebrate the life he lived, the relationships he built and the love he impressed upon his community of friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers or gifts, his family has asked that you consider making donations in Michael’s honor to the Michael Miller Memorial GoFundMe campaign to be used towards their girl’s college funds (https://gf.me/u/yhgxpc).
