Patricia Ann Bennett, “Pat”, 75, passed away unexpectedly at her home on December 14, 2016. At the time of her passing, Pat resided in Tucson, AZ. In the recent past Pat lived in Silver City, NM and Glendale, AZ.
Pat was born April 23, 1941 in Phoenix, AZ. An only child born to Pearle and Jake Linder, Pat’s life changed greatly when her grandmother, Dovie Ethel Bruner, married Joe Bob Sumrell in 1944. The Sumrells expanded her family. She gained new uncles, aunts and cousins who would always be part of her life. In 1947 Pat met Madaline Caton (Chaney) at age 6, they remained best friends Pat’s entire life. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1959.
Pat would have her only child, Matthew Stein in 1962. As Matt grew and developed computer skills, he would help his mother learn and become an avid user of the Internet.
Pat married Richard Bennett in 1981, further expanding her extended family. Pat and Richard would build their lives in Glendale, AZ and after retirement, Silver City, NM and ultimately Tucson, AZ.
After retirement from Salt River Project/Phoenix AZ in 1998, Pat pursued a new interest in genealogy. This new interest resulted in many new acquaintances and friends from across the country. Her passion for discovering family roots assisted many in learning their own family’s pathway and heritage.
Pat is survived by her husband Richard Bennett, son Matthew Stein, daughter-in- Law Jessica Stein, lifelong friend Madaline Chaney, nieces Julie Bennett and Roxanne Olson, nephew Christopher Bennett, half-sister Carolyn Stallworth, cousins Scott Hairston and Bryan Melton, plus many relatives and friends including many Bennett and Sumrell Family connections in California, Georgia, Illinois, and Texas.
Pat is preceded in death by Pearle and Jake Linder, Dovie Ethel Sumrell, Joe Bob Sumrell, Gene Sumrell, and Ferd Sumrell.
Pat was always helping someone with a project or a task, she continues this even after death as she is an organ donor. So there will be no formal service and the family asks that those who wish to celebrate Pat’s life to gather together for a meal or a drink and enjoy each other’s company.
In lieu of flowers please express your sympathy and consider a memorial in Pat’s honor to the Arizona Humane Society or American Diabetes Association.

In memory of Patricia Ann Bennett, Matthew Stein lit a candle
Pat and I connected when she maintained a cemetery records website on mycochise.com. She met me once at the local McNeal Cemetery, where I was attempting to record burial information. She was cheerful, kind, and competent. We remained in touch off and on over the years since then. I miss her input. She was a nice lady.
