Obituary

Sylvia Slate-Corona passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her husband, Juan Corona, on March 5, 2023. She suffered through Alzheimer’s for about 5 years, staying strong through it all.

Sylvia was born on May 20, 1957 in Douglas, AZ to Alfred Slate and Maria Felix. She was one of seven daughters. Her sisters are Elsa, Sandra, Pat, Matilde, Esther and Estella. She graduated from Douglas High School in 1975. She then lived in Indio, CA where she started her family. Her daughter, Tracy, was born on August 21, 1976. They moved to Tucson, AZ in 1980.  Her son, Marco, was born on November 21, 1983. During these years she stayed home and cared for her children.

She began her career in the furniture industry in 1987. She had many successes and thrived as a store manager for years. One thing that will always be remembered was when she first started working, she bought a big dining room set and hutch with the money she earned. She was so proud of herself. During these years her grandkids were born. Time with them brought her immense joy. She loved being around them always. Towards the end of her career, she obtained her real estate license and began assisting people that were relocating to Tucson. This is where her next big adventure begins. In 2012, her client, Juan Corona, was moving to Tucson and needed help finding a place. About a month later they went on their first date and that’s when their beautiful love story began.

She and Juan were married on January 26, 2018. What a fun and beautiful day that was. Sylvia was so happy to be marrying her baby and Juan was so happy to be marrying his nena. During their time together they went on great adventures. The two that stand out the most were the trips to Italy and Paris. Sylvia felt so blessed that Juan planned these trips and they experienced so much together. They laughed, they danced, they love each other with all they are.

Sylvia loved experiencing all that life was. Spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren was her favorite pastime. She was a loving mom and nana all of her days. Sylvia loved to travel and see new places. She loved to dance the night away in her husband’s arms. She loved to be present for people whenever she was needed. She lived her life fearlessly and without worry. She knew how to live fully. Sylvia was a lady in every sense of the word. Her grace followed her wherever she went. Sylvia’s Faith was strong and helped carry her through. Most of all, Sylvia, knew how to love with all of her heart and soul. Her love lives on forever in all of the beauty that surrounds us every day.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Juan Corona. Her daughter, Tracy(Matt)McAdams, her son, Marco(Laura)Murray. Her daugher-in-law, Marcela. Her sons-in-law, Nick and Juan Miguel. Her grandkids, Owen, Noah, Isa, Zoe, Elliott and Ember. Her sisters Sandra, Pat, Mati(Pia), Esther(Donald) and Estella. Her sister-in-law, Tonieta. Her best friend, Evelia. Her nieces and nephews, Mary An, Michael, Nydia, Ruben, Lalo(her Godson), Cesar, Cassy and Alias. As well as countless great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear of Sylvia's passing. I met Sylvia through the property management industry when she did furniture rentals. She was the nicest person and great at her job. RiP Sylvia, you will be missed.
