Obituary

Russell J. Ayers beloved husband and father passed away on September 7, 2018 at Casa De La Luz Hospice after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Russ was born and raised in Owego, New York and predeceased by his parents Archie and Mary Ayers and his brothers Ray and Robert. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Donna, and their four children, Jason, Bryan (Amy), Allison (Cody), Lisa; one grandson Kai; his twin brother Carl (Nancy) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that were very special to him. Russ served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. He was an employee of IBM for 17 years. He retired in 2014 from the Pima County Department of Transportation after 20 years. Russ will be remembered for his quick wit, creativity and imagination, and was known for his one-liners – he always made us laugh! A self-made handyman, he could make anything work with creative ingenuity. Of utmost importance to Russ was his family. He will be remembered for his dedication to them, always making time, sharing his knowledge and unconditional love. He liked planning family vacations and always did such a great job. On the east coast, there were many trips with the kids to Disney World and other Florida adventures; on the west coast, frequent visits to the San Diego area and of course to Disneyland. He loved being near the water – lakes and oceans. One of his favorite trips was to Hawaii with our girls.
A private interment for Russell will be held for family members at the Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Marana. A public memorial service is scheduled for Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. at Marana Mortuary located at 12146 W Barnett Rd., Marana, AZ 85653. Reverend David Fife will be officiating. For those who wish, contributions can be made to Casa De La Luz Hospice. Donations directly support patients and families facing end of life.

I'm so sorry for your lost. I didn't know Russ personally, but after listening to Donna talk about him over the years we worked together I know he was a special person. My condolences and prayers to your family.
