Obituary

On September 12, 2023, Daya William Stryker (71) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the home of his brother Stephen in Tucson, AZ.

Daya was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Central Bucks High School before relocating with his family to Tucson, Arizona. Daya began his 30-year career in food service and hospitality at the Arizona Inn in the early 1980s. He also worked part-time with his brother Frank at the Roadrunner Nursery in Tucson. In 1983 Daya relocated to Hawaii where he continued his career in hospitality and held managerial positions at various resorts in Honolulu, Maui, Molokai, and Kawaii. Subsequently, he managed food service for major hotels in Taiwan and Guam.

Daya always welcomed family and friends with open arms for visits and stays at his various hotels. Daya made cherished, life-long friendships throughout his many years living and working abroad. In 2015, he returned to Tucson where he lived with his brother Frank and sister-in-law Johanna for several years. Frank and Daya both faced terminal cancer diagnoses and walked that difficult journey together. Daya passed just six months after the passing of his beloved brother Frank.

Daya is survived by his older brother Stephen Stryker, sister-in-law Johanna Stryker-Smit, sister-in-law Maryanne Stryker, nephews Jason Stryker, Bayard Stryker and nieces Alexis Stryker, Chloe Stryker, Blaire Stryker Vincent, Julia Stryker Santiago, Margaret Stryker Tettemer, and Jennifer Starkey.

Daya’s infectious smile, kindness and Aloha spirit will live on in all the lives he touched and who were lucky enough to know and love him. Aloha, our dearest Daya, you will be deeply missed. We love you more, always.

His smile always lit up the room and he was so welcoming, even while he struggled with his illness. He fought valiantly. We love you all very much, Izaro and Melissa

Dearest Daya, now that you’re gone I don’t want to learn to live without you. I just want to learn to live with your love in a different way. And if I need to see you, I’ll close my eyes, or look in my shadow when the sun shines, You’ll be there. I’ll sit with you in the quiet and know you did not leave. There is no leaving when a soul is blended with another. I won’t learn to live without you, I’ll just learn to look for you in the moments. You’ll be there.

Days and I shared two extraordinary life events: 1) we both disparately loved the same man for years which lead to our spiritual bond and 2) he was in the delivery room with me when my one and only amazing son was born which even strengthened our bond. Daya introduced me to mother Mary and dad and the rest of the family. I’ve grown to love the Stryker’s and share the joys and sorrows of having Daya in our lives.
