Obituary

Jerry M. Washburn
4/8/1942 – 8/24/2016

Jerry Washburn was born April 8, 1942 in Fargo, ND. He is predeceased by his parents, Harry S. and Violet A. (Roeser) Washburn, his sisters Audrey and JoAnne (Buck), brother-in- law Richard Buck and niece Jane Buck. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Becky Meredith, his son Mike (Debbie) Washburn, daughter Michele Prestijohn, and 4 grandsons.

Jerry joined the Air Force in 1961 and retired from Davis-Monthan AFB in 1986 as CMSgt, Chief of Personnel. He met and married Becky in Tacoma, WA in 1982, promising when he retired he would move back to the northwest. They came to Tucson in 1984, but his love of playing golf continued to keep him from making good on that promise. In a completely selfless gesture while on vacation in Hawaii in 2005, he announced his intention to begin a new career as a cabana boy, if Becky would move there.

Unfortunately, Jerry was unable to secure his desired position, so back to Tucson they came. Jerry got cardiomyopathy and received a new heart in April, 1993. His family is so grateful to his surgeon, Dr. Luis Rosado-Lopez, and to the young man and his family that gave Jerry more than 23 additional years. He gave it a good run. Hit ‘em where they mow and check your grip, the advice he has given so many of his golfing friends over the years.

A memorial service will be held at the Marana Mortuary, 12146 W. Barnett Road, Marana AZ on Tuesday September 30, 2016 , at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please sign an organ donor card or make a donation to your nearest First Tee Program.
