John Peter Monell, Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on June 1, 2024, in Catalina, Arizona. He was born on September 1, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to John Peter Monell and Gertrude M. Monell (Grigoroff).
After graduating, John pursued his passion for accounting. He started as a junior accountant and became a Chief Financial Officer for companies that included Russ Berrie, Thermal-Chem, and PrintSoft Americas. He and his wife Lisa later moved to Catalina, Arizona, to enjoy his retirement years. He was a hardworking man who took a part-time job at a Walmart store to stay busy and enjoyed it so much he stayed there for over 10 years.
John was a dedicated family man who worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. He was proceeded in death by his first wife Constance Monell (the mother of his children Kristie and Michael), and by his daughter Kristie Monell.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Monell, his son Michael (Janice) Monell, his daughter Ariana Monell, and his grandchildren; Stephanie, Emily and Michael.
John married Lisa on February 29, 1992, and they recently celebrated 32 years together. Family was the center of John’s life, and he worked multiple jobs for many years to ensure his children had everything they needed and to save for their college education.
In his free time, John enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and working in the yard. He found peace in sitting outside with a cold beer after completing his DIY projects. His calm and solid presence brought comfort to those around him. And his big heart was evident in everything he did.
John was a member of the community who was always available to lend a hand. He had a keen eye for detail and observed things that most people overlooked. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. He was quite simply a nice guy.
A private service will be held to honor John’s memory. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, hard work, and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
