Johnny Rex Thompson went to his heavenly home on February 17, 2024. Johnny was born on May 15, 1947 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to Rex and Dee Thompson. Johnny spent 25 years in the Army, first in Special Forces as a Green Beret and then as a helicopter pilot flying Hueys and Cobras. He completed three tours in Viet Nam receiving a Purple Heart in each tour. He always said he never learned how to duck.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Monte Arledge. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years Gay (Schomerus); sisters Bonnie (Carl) Larreau, Bettye (Don) Beard, and Mary Arledge; children Shawn (Shelly) Thompson, Rhonda (Mitch) Fure, and Kandie (Russ) Stanton; eight grandchildren Shawn (Zolee) Thompson, Scott (Maggie) Thompson, Alyssa (Carlos) Marroquin, Kayla (Oliver) Holliman, Jase Fure, Kynzie Stanton, Chelsea Stanton, and Zachary Stanton; and two great grandsons Preston Thompson and Levi Marroquin.
Johnny often said he was blessed with a wonderful family whom he loved dearly. We will all miss him and his adventurous spirit.
