Maria Elena Valenzuela, “Nena,” 74, of Tucson, Arizona, born on October 29, 1946, passed away September 1, 2021. Maria Elena is survived by her husband of 53 years; Santiago Valenzuela, her children; Richard, Daniel and Vanessa Valenzuela; her 3 grandchildren; Viviana, Kyle and Danielita; and her brothers; Ruben, Adolfo, and sister, Lucia Navallez. She was a devoted dog mamá and left behind her 3 chihuahuas, Thelma, Luisa “Licha,” and Pepe. She loved her family and spoiled each one of us immensely.
Maria Elena, born to Jesús Navallez Luna and Lucia Trujillo González, was raised in Cananea, Sonora. She attended Colegio Esperanza Cananea, Sonora, México. She married Santiago Valenzuela on October 24, 1968, in Hermosillo, Sonora and migrated to the United States where they raised their children. Maria Elena worked alongside her husband in the family automotive business for over 40 years.
Maria Elena was a faithful Christian, who enjoyed being part of a church family and loved to volunteer. Our beloved, Maria Elena was a devoted wife, mamá, and nana. She was a fantastic cook and her recipes will live on through many generations. She was strong and a walking miracle who was healed after battling many ailments. Una “guerrera,” a fighter and will forever be an example of strength and grace. “Nena” was a natural leader. She graced many with her pearls of wisdom, and we were blessed to bear witness of her precious life. Her humorous character will always be in our fondest memories.
Maria Elena will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and her church members. Her celebration of life will be held at Ministerios Zoe-Tucson, located at 3840 S. Palo Verde Road. Doors open at 5pm and service starts at 6pm. It will also be streamed via FaceBook for those who cannot attend and for her family in Hermosillo.
