Obituary

The Ciarlo family is saddened to announce the sudden and tragic passing of beloved
Grandfather, Father, Brother, and friend Matthew Clovis Ciarlo. Matthew originated from
Oakland, California but lived many memorable years in Gardner, CO, Hemet, CA, and most
recently resided in Tucson, AZ. Matthew is preceded in death by Father Mario Ciarlo, Mother
Lydia Martinez, Brother Mark Ciarlo, Grandparents Conrad and Nestora Martinez, Clovis and
Isabel Salazar, as well as former father-in-law Sergio Abila.

Matthew is survived by former Mother-in-Law Dora Abila, long time love Cheryl
Atchison, his Sisters Renee (Randy) Mohrbacher, Laurie (Terry) Ciarlo-Thompson, Brothers Brian
Ciarlo and Jon (Marisa) Petree. His children Brittney Ciarlo, Mario Ciarlo, Nathan (Elizabeth)
Atchison, Stepdaughter Savana Patchen, and Grandchildren Taelor, Elias, Brooklyn, Sergio,
Benjamin, and Jackson.

Matthew was born on April 14th, 1963 and tragically left us to continue his journey on
August 9th, 2023. Matthew was born in Alameda, CA and spent his youth throughout California
and Colorado working on his Grandfathers ranch as a young man, eventually evolving into
owning a successful excavation company "Ciarlo Excavating". Matthew was also a Volunteer
Firefighter EMT in Colorado, inspiring his son to follow in his footsteps. Matthew would
eventually return to Southern California later in life working for the City of Riverside before his
final relocation to Tucson, AZ with his son.

Anyone who had the privilege of meeting or knowing Matt knew he was the life of the
party and a sociable person with a contagious laugh that anyone would love. Matt lived life to
the fullest and has too many memorable stories to count. He had a love and wealth of
knowledge for anything with a motor. From his love of the ride on his Harley, to his addiction for
speed on the water in his jet boat, or his classic Jeep, there was nothing he couldn't fix or
restore; his many talents and eclectic lifestyle inspired many. Matthew was one of the hardest
working, lovable, selfless, and genuine person most of us will ever know. His family will never be
the same and will miss him every second of every day. Only because of the lessons we have
learned from Matt will we be able to get through these difficult times. We love you more than
life itself, and we will be with you again. It's never goodbye, instead, we will see you later.

You’re blood runs through their veins. I cherish this fact. Tell my dad hi for me!? My parents always loved you like a son, and I know you loved them as your own parents. Fly high and free!
