William "J" Brown

William “J” Brown was born on April 5, 1948 and moved on to his heavenly home at the age of 75 on August 25, 2023. Born in Orlando, Florida, J moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1971 as a reservist with the United States Air Force after returning from Viet Nam. He married Trinidad Lancaster Jones and together they had just what J always wanted: a son, JonPaull, and a daughter, Pamela. J worked the majority of his life for and retired from Tucson Unified School District. In his retirement, J volunteered in support of the homeless, facilitating shower programs and clothing collection/distribution.

J was an amazing football player in his youth and an avid bowler as an adult. He reveled in coaching kids in both of the sports he loved so much. J enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas and his hometown in Florida. J was an active choir member at Southside Presbyterian Church and was often heard singing to himself as he went about his days.

Later in life, J met an amazing woman, Janet Weisberg, who not only filled his heart but took care of him until his last days. They were married on July 9, 2005. Janet had four adult children of her own: Rob, Lydia, Joshua, and Johanna. They were accepted with open arms and took J in and treated and cared for him like he was their own. Janet is still fighting at 85; please keep her in your prayers.

In addition to his children and step-children, J is survived by his father, Jim Brown of Orlando, Florida, and two grandchildren, Devon and Royal Brown of Tucson, and two step-grandchildren, Penelope and Clementine Weisberg of Los Angeles, California. J was predeceased by his mother, Willie Mae Bowen, and brothers Kenneth Powell and George Brown, all of Orlando, Florida.

A celebration of J’s life will be held at Southside Presbyterian Church (317 W. 23rd St., Tucson, Arizona 85713) at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 30, 2023.  All are welcome.
